Architect – Tim Paterson Brown
Tim Paterson Brown is an architect from Britain, who has designed approximately 500 buildings across southwest and north England over the course of his career. He carried out his training in London, and upon graduating set up his own practice in Brighton. For the first ten years, Tim Paterson-Brown ran the business with just one other partner, however as the company became more widely known, Paterson Brown chose to expand, and hired another three more architects.
Whilst initially, Paterson Brown’s company focused on designing domestic properties, as the reputation of his business grew, he began to work on commercial and industrial buildings as well as domestic ones. Much of the architectural work which Tim Paterson Brown has done over the years includes the restoration and renovation of existing churches, the building of new churches, alternations to domestic properties, as well as work done to public buildings, memorials, schools, offices, banks and shops. He is known amongst his peers for having an eclectic design style, with a distinct hint of English Gothic in many of the buildings he has created. He is said to be influenced by many of the architectural styles from Europe, with suggestions of Dutch, German and French architecture evident in his designs. Tim Paterson Brown love of various forms of architecture from all over the continent has resulted in the creation of a unique style of his own, which often includes the use of features such as pinnacles, conical roofs, and imposingly high ceilings.
He is most well known for incorporating vernacular elements into many of his buildings, particularly the technique of half-timbering. Other elements reminiscent of this style include the use of tall chimney stacks, decorative bricks and tile hanging. He has been widely praised for his delicate, ornate wood carvings and use of joinery as well. The work of Tim Paterson Brown now attracts commissions from all over the world. He is a member of the Institute of Architects and has been on the judging panel for several prestigious architectural design competitions. He has also been a keynote speaker at a number of international design conferences.
